Once it debuted in 2020, there was never a reason not to enjoy Tale of the Nine-Tailed. We still fawn over the balcony scene since it was so much fun. If someone is going to defend you in that way, it is worth risking your life. We think the reason we enjoyed it so much so much was just how crazy Lee Yeon was. He was both endearing and terrifying because of all the love and responsibility, which were moderated by the quirkiness of eternity. Not to mention that we simply couldn’t get enough of him following his turn as the vegetarian Grim Reaper in Goblin. We were eager for the sequel for this reason. Simply because it is set in a time before 2020, when the original story took place, does not imply that it is a prequel. But getting back to the subject, we only desired additional exposure to Lee Dong Wook. Nobody performs annoyed charm as well as he does, and his red hair color enhances his nice looks. Tale of Nine-Tailed 1938’s first episode merely introduces the characters while paying homage to Lee Yeon’s followers. Here is a summary.
Warning: Spoilers
Why Does Lee Yeon Go To 1938?
Yeon is arguing with Taluipa (the protector of the river of the dead), asking that she reincarnate his brother, four months after the events of Tale of the Nine-Tailed, which are the death of Lee Rang. Taluipa demands that Lee Yeon go back to his prior position of punishing the supernatural beings who disturb the living in exchange for giving him what he wants. To do this, Yeon would have to revert to being a Gumiho. Yeon concurs, but insists that he doesn’t want to live forever and that he want to pass away beside Ji Ah. Yeon is back to being a hunter-fox now that this contract is signed. The flow of the dead stream’s boundary stone was stolen by a masked guy, which would have prevented it from continuing in an orderly fashion. This indicates that Taluipa is only just managing to keep the evil spirits from overflowing into the world. Lee Yeon has to recover the stone at all costs. Yeon must quickly rescue the stone from 1938, where the robber has fled, before the clock runs out. We appreciate the excellent brand placement used in completing this task.
How Did Lee Yeon Meet Lee Rang In 1938?
Lee Yeon found himself right in the thick of the Korean War of Independence from Japan in 1938. The stone winds up in the possession of a gangster who flees with it after Yeon spots the mask-wearing man. Lee Yeon is unable to immediately follow him because he stops to assist the Koreans who are rising up against the Japanese. We adore it when there is a hint of patriotism. In either case, the thug is employed by bandit Lee Rang. He had been engaged in that for at least thirty years. Given that they live such long lives and must experience several lives and circumstances, we wonder if humans who are immortal have any fantasies.
Lee Rang is the thugs’ boss, and they are wolves in either case. Yeon is delighted to see him, but because Rang is suspicious of his motives, he gets into trouble. After a few fights, Yeon takes a blow to show Rang his brotherly love and good intentions. Normally, Yeon would have fled with the stone at that point, but just then, the masked man emerges from nowhere and fatally wounds Lee Rang, forcing Yeon to remain behind. His brother wants him to take him to Myoyeongak because right now he must do whatever it takes to save Rang’s life.
Does Lee Yeon Go Back To The Present Day?
Although Myoyeongak is reputed to be the town’s second-best eatery, Lee Yeon is baffled as to why Rang requested him to visit. All of this makes sense when he encounters a demon with the ability to lengthen people’s lives. Long Living Dong Bang Sak is the name of this demon. He is the fictional being whose lifespan is claimed to be the longest, according to the series, which we watched. Despite the fact that he begs Lee Yeon to bring back the single weapon capable of killing him in the series, the sword of Uturi, our own study reveals that his prolonged life was an eyesore for the spiritual realm. Although Lee Yeon has little time left, he must save his brother. The issue is that Lee Yeon, who was in one of his worst mental states ever in 1938, was the sword’s master. He was an opium addict who was craving Ah Eum, his first love, to the point where he was becoming insane. We will just state that he receives the sword and that Lee Yeon 2023 and Lee Yeon 1938 ought to communicate more.
When Lee Rang is floating outside of his body back in Myoyeongak, he learns that Dong Bang Sak steals life instead of prolonging it. Since a fox is immortal, Bang Sak desires Lee Rang’s life expectancy. However, Lee Rang’s body is kept secret by the Myoyeongak women because Lee Yeon, who had previously expressed doubts about Bang Sak, asked for it. This disguise is quickly exposed, and Bang Sak discovers Rang’s body even though he doesn’t yet injure him. Yeon explains to Bang Sak that he always knew what his true motives were but acted in accordance with them because he needed to protect his brother when he returns with the sword. Lee Rang intervenes in a quarrel between Lee Yeon and Bang Sak by assuming the body of a female that Bang Sak had killed earlier. Bang Sak is a turtle, one of the ten longevity symbols, Lee Rang informs Yeon. Basically, 10 elements of nature that signify longevity were collected by Korean artists. This is due to the fact that 10 is regarded as a perfect and whole number. These components were frequently used in Joseon art, both for ceremonial purposes and more frequently than not. We think there is a tiny timing mistake here. The Joseon era spans the years 1392 to 1910. This show takes place in 1938, which is nearly two decades later. But we assume that this is a tolerable situation.
Bang Sak begins to transform into a turtle once Yeon and Rang learn about his weakness and keep demanding his head. Yeon uses the sword to slash off his head when he is at his weakest point, ending his life and saving Rang and the girl’s. But because of the whole incident, time has run out, and Lee Yeon is now trapped in 1938. In the final moments of Tale of Nine-Tailed 1938 Episode 1, Ryu Hong Joo, a lifelong friend of Lee Yeon, is getting ready to meet him. According to appearances, she is crushing on Lee Yeon. Who wouldn’t, I guess? Additionally, we believe that she is aware that Lee Yeon from the future is here. Everyone that was introduced in the episode is currently traveling somewhere aboard a train. Where it takes them will be revealed in the upcoming episode.
