We were certain that tears would soon be shed as we watched Episode 5 of The Good Bad Mother. Contrary to what we had anticipated, they did not begin until the very end of Episode 6, yet now we find ourselves heartbroken over what is ahead. We now know why Young Soon’s character has been described as both nice and terrible. When she was allegedly terrible, it was because she wanted to provide a wonderful life for her kid. We aren’t excusing that because that wouldn’t be fair to Kang Ho, but we can’t help but compare that period to the present, when she occasionally behaves badly. For instance, she bribed Kang Ho with food to teach him how to use his hands, or she now wants her son to get into the wheelchair on his own so that he can become independent sooner. Even though she was cruel all the time, Kang Ho’s welfare was always her top priority. She is free to decide how she strikes a balance. Here is a thorough summary of The Good Bad Mother’s sixth episode for the time being.
Warning: Spoilers
What Happens With Sam Sik And Mi Joo?
Without a doubt, Kang Ho already loves Mi Joo. Later, he attempted to catch a fish to make her happy after wanting a dog to wow her. Mi Joo receives funding from her mother to start a nail salon, and she then looks around the neighborhood for spaces to rent for her enterprise. She’s in luck because she locates the ideal location at a pesticide store where she can gain a lot of exposure from consumers without having to pay rent. Although she is successful in her quest, Mi Joo is unaware that Kang Ho has followed her into town in order to retrieve the handbag she left behind as she boarded the bus. He observes her gazing into an aquarium and assumes she enjoys fish, but Mi Joo is simply recalling some of their earlier memories. She and Kang Ho’s mother cross paths, and the three of them travel back to the hamlet together. Young Soon apologizes for treating Mi Joo harshly when she was younger upon dropping her off at her residence. With the exception of Mi Joo having to keep Kang Ho away from Ye Jin and Seo Jin for whatever reason, it is all over for the time being.
More similarities between Kang Ho and the children emerge when he visits the twins’ home and stays for supper, including their hate of carrots. Kang Ho is urged by Mi Joo never to return to the house or interact with the twins. Kang Ho is aware of the fact that he must have mistreated Mi Joo in the past.
Sam Sik has returned to the village in the interim. He can only return to Jou Ri after being threatened by his employer and losing his job. He is unaware that he has lost his memories when he first sees Kang Ho. Sam Sik recalls how Kang Ho had given him money while also subtly telling him not to mention him in public. When Sam Sik was in difficulty and begging Kang Ho for assistance, he had turned him down pretty heartlessly. But this gives us another hint. Sam Sik had been given stolen property that belonged to an assemblyman. They might have a connection to Oh Tae Soo. Will it ultimately reveal out that Kang Ho was safeguarding Sam Sik in the same way as he was safeguarding Mi Joo by ending his relationship with her? Since Young Soon is currently bringing care packages to the woman protesting against Kang Ho outside the prosecutor’s office, we can’t wait till the day we get this clarity.
Do The Villagers Agree To Evict The Pig Farm?
Most of the villagers are actually childhood friends of the composer, Baek Hoon Ah. The people remember him even though he moved out when he was in second grade. As he gets to know everyone again, he suggests a plan to build the largest trot music performance hall in the nation in the village, which would give everyone gainful employment. The locals are convinced by Hoon Ah’s depiction and decide the pig farm must be destroyed. When they leave the meeting, however, they all begin to second-guess their decision as they reflect with clearer heads and realize that they don’t really want to do such a thing to Young Soon. The village chief, Mr. Song, even makes Hoon Ah aware that he is bankrupt and most likely cannot finance the hall anyhow. If Young Soon hadn’t overheard their chat the night before while they were conspiring against her, this amusing narrative would have ended right now.
What Happened To Young Soon?
Do you recall the two men that shielded Kang Ho from the assassin intended to kill him in Episode 5? It turns out that they went there to hunt for original records of evidence against Oh Tae Soo and that they did, in fact, work for Song Woobyeok. Even though they weren’t anticipating a murderer to appear, the chairman ordered them to keep guarding Kang Ho. When these two men arrive at Young Soon’s pig farm, they unintentionally cross paths with her. They fabricate a story to hide their true identity, claiming they require pig manure because they recently bought a nearby farm. Young Soon is delighted to meet them, but as she bids them farewell, she passes out and drops to the ground. She is taken to the hospital by the men, where Young Soon learns that she has stomach cancer in stage 4.
Young Soon is horrified and initially in denial after Episode 6 of The Good Bad Mother ends, but as reality settles in, she immediately thinks of Kang Ho. He is a child in a man’s body, and he urgently needs her assistance. Young Soon is aware that she cannot pass away and abandon him. That would be similar to when she was a child and misplaced her parents and brother shortly after they left on a picnic that she was unable to go due to a test she had to take. She knows she cannot let Kang Ho suffer the same struggles she endured while growing up, particularly the unfairness of the circumstances. Kang Ho’s tumble from his wheelchair prompts her to ask him to stand up on his own. We can see how she is preparing him to live independently in the trailer for Episode 7 of The Good Bad Mother. All that remains to be seen is if Kang Ho can recall that.
Final Thoughts
Did we mention that Lee Do Hyun won the Melo-King prize for his melodramatic performances? When we watch melodramas, we tend to be cautious because it feels as like we have chosen something to cry about, and why would we do that when life is already so difficult? However, there’s a good reason why The Good, Bad Mother has us captivated. We anticipate it as eagerly as we fear it, and if the series’ conclusion doesn’t have an unquestionably happy ending, we will swear off this genre forever. But for the time being, Episode 6 was entertaining—at least until the final ten minutes.
